Requirements For UNIBEN Postgraduate Admission
All PG programs offered by UNIBEN have their different requirements. Check this list and ensure that you meet the requirements set for your chosen program.
- Candidates holding a Pass degree or diploma are not eligible for admission into the postgraduate programs. Additionally, those with a Third-Class degree must obtain a Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) to qualify for consideration into Master’s programs.
- Candidates who have completed a Master’s degree but achieved a Weighted Average Score (WAS) of 55.0% to 59% will only be eligible for the M.Phil. program as an initial step.
- Candidates applying for a Ph.D. program must have obtained a minimum Weighted Average Score of 60% in their Master’s degree.
- Candidates with a Master’s degree from other universities who have not previously completed required compulsory courses or their equivalents, as outlined by the University of Benin, must complete and pass such courses with a minimum of 60% upon admission.
- Candidates must have at least five (5) credit passes, including Mathematics and English, in WASC, NECO, GCE (Ordinary Level), or their equivalents.
- Candidates who hold four credits at the Ordinary Level, along with OND (not a Pass), NCE, IJMB, or Advanced Level passes, or equivalent qualifications may also qualify for admission.
- Only candidates who possess an NYSC discharge certificate, exemption certificate, or exclusion certificate will be eligible for clearance into the university’s postgraduate programs.
UNIBEN Postgraduate Programs Duration

- Sandwich Programme: Offered during two long vacation periods.
