Eligibility Criteria For ABSU Postgraduate Admission 2024/2025
All candidates who are interested in the Abia State University Postgraduate application form must ensure that they meet the requirements outlined below based on the program they are going for:-
- Applicants must have completed the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program and provide proof of their discharge or exemption certificate.
- Candidates must have at least five (5) credit passes in relevant subjects at O’Level (WAEC, NECO, or equivalent), including English Language and Mathematics.
Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) Program
- Graduates from a recognized university who satisfy departmental and matriculation requirements are eligible.
- Candidates with Upper Credit in HND from a recognized institution can apply.
- Business Administration: Must have O’Level credits in English, Mathematics, and Economics.
- Estate Management: A degree in a relevant field or professional qualification from the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners with work experience.
- Microbiology: A degree or HND in Microbiology, Biochemistry, Zoology, Botany, Laboratory Technology, Food Science and Technology, or Chemistry.
- Pharmacology: A B.Sc in related fields from a recognized university.
Master’s Degree Programmes (M.Sc, M.A, M.Ed, MBA, etc.)
- First Degree Holders must have at least a Second Class Lower (2.2) from a recognized university.
- Candidates with a CGPA of 2.6 on a 4.0 scale or 3.0 on a 5.0 scale will be given priority.
- Those with a good Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) from a recognized university may also be considered.
- Candidates applying for an M.A. or M.Ed in a different field from their first degree may need to complete a PGD before progressing.
Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) and MPhil/Ph.D Programmes
- Applicants must have a Master’s degree (not an MBA) in a relevant field with coursework and a defended research dissertation.
- Candidates with a CGPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale or 4.0 on a 5.0 scale will be given preference.
- A minimum of 60% average in both coursework and dissertation, assessed by an External Examiner and including an oral defense.
- Candidates may be required to take a test or attend an interview as part of the admission process.
- Applicants with a CGPA below the required 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) or 4.0 (on a 5.0 scale) may be admitted through an MPhil/Ph.D track before proceeding to full Ph.D status.
How To Apply For Abia State University Postgraduate Admission Form 2024/2025
If you are interested in applying for a postgraduate program at Abia State University (ABSU), follow these simple steps to complete your application:
- Go to www.portal.abiastateuniversity.edu.ng to begin your application process.
- You will need to pay a non-refundable fee of ₦25,000 at any of the following banks:
- ABSU Micro-Finance Bank, Uturu
- First Bank Plc
- Signature Bank
- Zenith Bank Plc
- Fidelity Bank Plc
- Union Bank Plc
- UBA Plc
- You can also make payments using a bank debit card.
- After making the payment, collect the e-transact receipt from the bank. This receipt is important, as you will need it to proceed with your application.
- Visit www.abiastateuniversity.edu.ng and fill out the postgraduate application form.
- Ensure all required details are correctly entered before submission.
- After submitting your form online, print a copy of your completed application.
- You must also print three copies of the referee confidential reports, which will be sent to your referees for completion.
- At least two referees should be former university lecturers who have taught you at the undergraduate level.
All candidates must ensure that they pay their application fees and fill out the application form as soon as possible. The deadline is close, void missing out on a chance to study at the postgraduate level by applying early.
Duration of ABSU Postgraduate Programs
Abia State University (ABSU) offers various postgraduate programs with specific duration limits for both full-time and part-time students. Below is a breakdown of the study periods for each program:-
Postgraduate Diploma (PGD)
- Full-Time: Takes a minimum of three semesters and must be completed within six semesters.
- Part-Time: Runs for at least four semesters, with a maximum duration of eight semesters.
Master’s Degree Programs
- Full-Time: Requires at least three semesters and must be completed within ten semesters.
- Part-Time: Lasts a minimum of four semesters and can extend up to eight semesters.
MPhil/Ph.D Programs
- Full-Time: Students must complete the program within six to ten semesters.
- Part-Time: The minimum duration is eight semesters, with a maximum of sixteen semesters.
Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)
- Full-Time: Requires at least four semesters, with a maximum limit of ten semesters.
- Part-Time: Students must complete the program within six to fourteen semesters.
