UNIBEN Postgraduate Admission Requirements 2024/2025

To qualify for postgraduate studies at the University of Benin (UNIBEN), all candidates must meet the following criteria:-

Candidates must possess at least five (5) credit passes in WASSCE, NECO, GCE (Ordinary Level), or their equivalents. This must include compulsory credit passes in Mathematics and English.
Candidates with four (4) credits at the Ordinary Level must also hold an OND (not a pass), NCE, IJMB, A-Level passes, or an equivalent qualification.
Applicants with a pass in their degree or diploma are not eligible for postgraduate admission.
Candidates with a third-class degree must complete a Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) before being considered for Master’s programs.
Candidates with a Master’s degree and a Weighted Average Score (WAS) between 55% and 59% can only apply for the M.Phil. program initially.
For a PhD application, a minimum WAS of 60% in a Master’s degree is required.
Candidates with a Master’s degree from another institution who did not complete certain required courses similar to those offered at UNIBEN must take and pass those courses with a minimum of 60% upon admission.
Applicants must provide an NYSC discharge, exemption, or exclusion certificate to be eligible for clearance into the postgraduate program.
Applicants must download and complete the referee forms available on the application portal. These forms should be sent directly to the Secretary of the School of Postgraduate Studies.
Applications will not be processed until the referee reports are submitted.
