General Eligible Requirements for EDSU Postgraduate Admission Form

To apply for any postgraduate program at the Edo State University (EDSU), applicants must meet these basic requirements:

  • O’Level Requirements: Applicants must have at least five (5) credits in SSCE (WAEC, NECO, GCE ‘O’ Level), NABTEB, or their equivalent. This must include English and Mathematics, and the credits should be from no more than two sittings.
  • NYSC Certificate: For admission into any postgraduate program, applicants must have completed their National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) or provide an exemption letter.

For Postgraduate Diploma (PGD):

  • Candidates can apply with a First Degree that is at least a Third Class Honors in a related field.
  • HND (Higher National Diploma) holders in relevant fields are also eligible.
  • Any professional qualifications related to the field may also be accepted.

For Master’s Degree Programs (M.Eng, M.Sc., MA, MPA, MBA):

  • Applicants need a Second Class Honors (Lower Division) degree from a recognized university.
  • Postgraduate Diploma holders with at least a credit level pass may also qualify.
  • Professional qualifications considered equivalent to the above can also be accepted.

For Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.):

  • Applicants must hold a Master’s Degree with a weighted average score of at least 50% (or a CGPA of 3.0 on a 5-point scale).

For Ph.D. Programs:

  • Applicants must have a Master’s Degree with a weighted average score of at least 60% (or a CGPA of 4.0 on a 5-point scale).
  • If your score is between 55% and 59% (or a CGPA of 3.5 to 3.9), or if your qualifications have gaps in certain courses, you may need to start with an M.Phil/Ph.D. program, with additional courses to make up for deficiencies.
  • Ph.D. applicants must also submit a research proposal/concept note of no more than 450 words along with their application.

Edo State University Postgraduate Program Durations

  • Postgraduate Diploma (PGD): The duration for the postgraduate Diploma (PGD) is 2 to 4 semesters.
  • Master’s Degree Programs: The Master’s Degree program generally lasts for 3 to 6 semesters.
  • Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.): The duration of the Master of Philosophy program is 2 to 4 semesters.
  • Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.): For the Doctor of Philosophy, the program lasts for 6 to 10 semesters.
