The Federal Government BEA Scholarship portal for 2025 is now officially open! The application portal was launched on December 2nd, and interested applicants can now apply. The BEA Scholarship offers opportunities at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. These opportunities are available in various countries with which Nigeria has signed bilateral agreements. The eligible countries are divided into the following categories:-

 Undergraduate (UG) Studies

Eligible countries for undergraduate studies include:-

  • Russia
  • Morocco
  • Hungary
  • Egypt
  • Algeria

Postgraduate (PG) Studies

Eligible countries for postgraduate studies include:-

  • Russia (only for those whose first degrees were obtained from Russia)
  • China
  • Hungary
  • Serbia
  • Romania

Fields of Study Available For BEA Scholarship 2025

Undergraduate

Eligibility Criteria For Federal Government BEA Scholarship 2025

All applicants whether undergraduate or postgraduate must meet the requirements for their chose path. The requirements are as follows:-

Undergraduate Scholarships

These are the conditions you are expected to meet for undergraduate studies through the BEA Scholarship:-

  • Applicants must have at least 7 distinctions (As and Bs) in their Senior Secondary School Certificates (WAEC/WASSCE).These distinctions must include English Language and Mathematics.
  • Certificates should meet for non-African countries must be from 2023 or 2024 and  the certificates must be from 2024 only.
  • Applicants must be between 17 and 20 years old.

Postgraduate Scholarships

To qualify for postgraduate studies through the BEA Scholarship:

  • Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree with at least a First-Class or Second-Class Upper Division.
  • Candidates should have completed the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program or possess an exemption certificate.
  • Candidates for a master’s degree must not be older than 35 years.
  • Candidates for a Ph.D. must not be older than 40 years.

Note: Proof of NYSC discharge or exemption must be submitted and evidence of employer release is required for applicants employed in the public or private sector.

Required Documents for Submission

Applicants are expected to upload specific documents depending on their level of study:-

For Undergraduate Applicants (UG)

  • WAEC/WASSCE certificate
  • National Identification Number (NIN) slip

For Postgraduate Applicants (PG)

  • First degree certificate
  • NYSC discharge or exemption certificate
  • NIN slip

Most BEA scholarship countries have non-English speaking backgrounds. Therefore successful applicants will be required to undertake a one-year mandatory foreign language course in their chosen country, as it will serve as the medium of instruction during their academic studies.

How to Apply for the BEA Scholarship 2025

Interested applicants must follow these simple steps to apply:

  • Go to the Federal Ministry of Education’s website: www.education.gov.ng.
  • On the home page, click on the Federal Scholarship Board icon to start the application process.
  • Carefully go through the guidelines provided to ensure you meet all the requirements before filling out the application form.
  • Complete the online application form as per the instructions provided on the portal.
  • Once you have successfully filled it out, print a copy of the completed application form. This will be important for future processes.

Important Notice

Take note of these instructions based on the countries you are applying for:-

For Hungary

  • Applicants can select up to two fields of study in order of preference.
  • They must complete the application via the Stipendium Hungaricum website, which will close on January 15, 2025.

For Russia

  • Applicants must apply through the Education in Russia Portal.
  • Postgraduate applicants must have completed their first degree in Russia to be eligible.
  • All documents must be properly scanned in PDF format and uploaded online.

To apply to Russia, applicants must:-

  • Have a valid international passport and WAEC certificate.
  • Download a digital copy of their WAEC certificate from the WAEC portal and upload it.

Additional documents (for successful applicants later in the process)

  • Authenticated copies of academic certificates.
  • Data page of the international passport.
  • Medical reports from government hospitals (where applicable).
  • Birth certificate and proof of indigeneity.
  • Police clearance certificate (if required).

Federal Government BEA Scholarship 2025 Application Deadline

The Application portal for the BEA Scholarship is currently open, if you are interested, the best time to apply is now. The deadline for the submission of all applications have been set for January 12, 2025. Ensure that you have completed your application before that date as the portal will be closed once the deadline has elapsed.
