JAMB Subject Combination For International Relations

One of the most important things to get right when registering for JAMB is your subject combination. A JAMB subject combination simply refers to the four subjects you are required to sit for in the UTME, based on the course you want to study. For those interested in International Relations, here is the correct JAMB subject combination:

  • English Language (This is compulsory for all candidates)
  • Government or History
  • Economics
  • Any other Social Science or Arts subject

JAMB Cut-Off Mark For International Relations

When you are aiming to study a particular course at any Nigerian university, one crucial factor to consider is the JAMB cut-off mark. Simply put, this is the minimum score you need in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) to be eligible for admission into a specific course. Each course has its cut-off mark, and meeting or exceeding this score increases your chances of securing admission.

For International Relations, the general JAMB cut-off mark is 180. This means you need to score at least 180 in your UTME to be considered for this course.

However, it’s important to note that some universities set higher cut-off marks for their programs. We strongly advise you to aim for a score well above 180.

UTME/Direct Entry Requirements For Intrnational Relations

There are two main ways to get into any Nigerian University: UTME (Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination) and Direct Entry (DE). Both routes are valid, but they require different qualifications and preparations. Let’s break them down:-

UTME

  • You must have sat for the JAMB exam and achieved the minimum required score (which is typically 180, but this can vary depending on the university).
  • You must have obtained a Senior Secondary Certificate (SSCE) or its equivalent, such as WAEC, NECO, or GCE, with at least five credits, including English Language, Government or History, and other relevant subjects like Economics.
  • You must choose International Relations as your course of study when filling out the JAMB application.

If you meet all these requirements, you will be eligible to apply and sit for the Post-UTME screening at your chosen university, where you’ll be further assessed before admission.

Direct Entry (DE)

  • A minimum of two A-Level passes or their equivalent (such as ND or NCE), preferably in subjects like Government, History, Economics, or any other related social science subjects.
  • A minimum of five credits in SSCE or its equivalent, including English Language and other relevant subjects.
  • You must meet the specific entry requirements of your chosen university, as some schools may have additional criteria for Direct Entry applicants.

In Direct Entry, you will skip the first year of study and join directly in the second year of the course. However, you must still meet the university’s cut-off mark for Direct Entry applicants.
