UNIMED Postgraduate Admission Requirements

To be considered for admission into UNIMED’s postgraduate programs, you must demonstrate your eligibility by meeting both the general admission requirements and the specific requirements for your chosen course. These requirements have been outlined comprehensively to provide you with clear guidance on what is expected for a successful application.

General Admission Requirements for All Postgraduate Programmes

All applicants must:-

  1. Complete the online application form on the university portal and provide the necessary supporting documents.
  2. Submit relevant academic credentials, including degree/diploma certificates and official transcripts.
  3. Provide three (3) reference letters and a 500-word statement of intent, outlining their proposed research focus.
  4. Meet the minimum O’ Level requirements, which include a Credit pass in English Language, Mathematics, and three other relevant subjects.
  5. Nigerian applicants must submit a valid NYSC discharge, exemption, or exclusion certificate.
  6. Ensure that their previous institution(s) send official academic transcripts directly to the Dean, Postgraduate School. Applications will only be processed when transcripts are received.

Program Specific Requirements

Master of Science (M.Sc.)

To qualify for admission into the M.Sc. program, applicants must:-

  • Hold a bachelor’s degree from the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED) Ondo or any other recognized university.
  • Have obtained at least a Second Class (Lower Division) in a relevant discipline.
  • Candidates with a third-class bachelor’s degree or an HND (Upper Credit) may also apply, provided they have completed a Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) with a minimum CGPA of 3.50 on a 5.00 scale in a related field.
  • Applicants who did not graduate from UNIMED may need to pass an interview, examination, or both, as required by the department.

Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)

To be eligible for the Ph.D. program, applicants must:-

  • Hold a Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) degree with a research thesis in a relevant area of specialization.
  • Possess a Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Physics, or Mathematics, with a minimum weighted average score of 60%.
  • Candidates who did not graduate from UNIMED may be required to meet additional departmental requirements, which could include an interview or examination.

Duration of UNIMED Postgraduate Programmes

The duration for postgraduate programs at the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED) Ondo is as follows:-

Master’s Programs

  • A minimum of three (3) academic semesters (18 months) and a maximum of five (5) academic semesters.
  • Some programs may require a minimum of four (4) academic semesters (24 months) and a maximum of six (6) academic semesters.

Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) Programs

  • A minimum of six (6) academic semesters (36 months) and a maximum of eight (8) academic semesters.
