Admission Requirements for Rivers State University (RSU)

Candidates are strongly advised to ensure they meet all the admission requirements listed above in addition to the approved cut-off mark for their chosen course. Meeting both the requirements and the departmental cut-off is essential to be considered eligible for admission into Rivers State University.

UTME Admission Requirements

  • You must have at least five (5) credit passes in relevant subjects, including English Language and Mathematics. These credits must be obtained in not more than two sittings in WAEC, NECO, or any equivalent examination.
  • You must score at least 190 in your JAMB exam. However, each department has its cut-off mark, which may be higher. You are advised to check the departmental cut-off for your chosen course.
  • You must register for the right subject combination for your chosen course. Choosing the wrong subjects may disqualify you from admission.
  • All candidates must participate in the RSU Post-UTME screening exercise and perform well to be considered for admission.
  • RSU must be selected as your first choice during JAMB registration. If it’s not, you’ll need to make a change of institution.

Direct Entry (DE) Admission Requirements

  •  Just like UTME candidates, you must have at least five (5) credit passes, including English and Mathematics, in relevant subjects.
  •  Direct Entry applicants are often required to submit academic transcripts from their previous institutions.
  • You must choose RSU as your first choice in the Direct Entry application on the JAMB portal.
  •  Some Direct Entry applicants may also be required to take part in the Post-UTME screening or document verification.

In addition to your O’Level, you must also have one of the following:-

  • A minimum of Upper Credit in a National Diploma (ND) or Higher National Diploma (HND) relevant to your course.
  • At least two A-Level passes in relevant subjects.
  • NCE (National Certificate in Education) with good grades (usually Merit or above).
  • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification (for some courses).
