The Rivers State University postgraduate admission portal is now open. Candidates who are interested in the regular and sandwich PGD, Master’s, and Ph.D. programs are welcome to send in their applications.
The Rivers State University Postgraduate Admission Form 2025/2026 is available on the postgraduate admission portal and is accessible only to candidates who are qualified for the programmes available.

How Much Is the RSU Postgraduate Admission Form?
The cost of the Rivers State University (RSU) postgraduate admission form depends on the type of program you are applying for. If you are going for a regular postgraduate program (like PGD, Master’s, or PhD), the application fee is ₦55,000. But if you’re applying for a Sandwich postgraduate program (usually taken during holidays, like in Education), the fee is ₦40,000.
Payment is made online using an Interswitch Verve-enabled ATM card. Just visit the university’s portal, follow the instructions, and pay directly with your card.
Rivers State University Postgraduate Admission Requirements 2025/2026
All candidates are strongly advised to ensure that they meet the specific admission requirements for the postgraduate programme they are applying for. Without fulfilling the necessary qualifications, your application may not be considered. Take time to review the criteria carefully before applying.
PGD
- All candidates must have at least five (5) credit passes at the O’Level, which must include English Language and Mathematics. These must be obtained from not more than two sittings.
- All applicants must submit a NYSC Discharge, Exemption, or Exclusion Certificate, where applicable.
Applicants must hold at least one of the following academic qualifications from Rivers State University or any other institution recognized by its Senate:-
- A Bachelor’s Degree with at least a Third Class grade or Pass, in a relevant discipline.
- A Higher National Diploma (HND) with at least a Lower Credit, in a related field.
- In some cases, an HND holder with relevant work experience (typically 5 years or more) may be considered even if the classification is not up to Lower Credit..
Master’s Degree Programs
- Candidates must hold a Bachelor’s degree with at least a Second Class Lower Division (CGPA of 3.0 on a 5.0 scale) from RSU or any other recognized institution. In some cases (e.g., Public Health), a minimum CGPA of 2.5 may be accepted, depending on the course.
- Applicants with a PGD in a relevant field may also be considered if they obtained a minimum CGPA of 3.50 on a 5-point scale (for many programs). This is especially common in fields like Human Anatomy, Biochemistry, Nursing Science, and Health Information Management.
- Degrees such as MBBS, BDS, DVM, B.Pharm, B.Sc. in Nursing, Biochemistry, Anatomy, or other related disciplines are accepted for several medical science-related Master’s programs.
- All applicants must present a NYSC Discharge Certificate, Exemption, or Exclusion Letter, depending on their status.
- For some programs (e.g., Nursing Science, Health Information Management), candidates must have a valid professional license from their respective regulatory body in Nigeria.
- Some programs (especially in Public Health and Demography) may consider applicants from other fields (Biological Sciences, Engineering, Education, etc.), provided they have relevant work experience and a demonstrated interest in the field.
- Some faculties may require a brief research proposal, written exams, or oral interviews as part of the screening process (particularly in Clinical Sciences and Public Health).
Applicants must also submit:-
- Two letters of reference (at least one from an academic source),
- Certified copies of certificates and transcripts,
- And must fulfill all other faculty-specific or departmental requirements.
PhD Programs
- You must hold a Master’s degree in a relevant field with a minimum CGPA of 3.50 on a 5.0 scale. This degree should be from RSU or another recognized university of equivalent academic standing.
- All applicants are required to submit a well-structured research proposal outlining their intended area of study. This proposal must reflect a clear research focus and demonstrate your readiness for advanced academic work.
- After submitting your research proposal, you will be invited to defend it orally before the Postgraduate Studies Committee (PSC) in your department. The oral interview is a key part of the selection process.
- To be admitted into the programme, you must score at least 60% in the oral defence and interview. Only candidates who meet or exceed this score will be offered admission.
How to Apply for Rivers State University Postgraduate Admission Form 2025/2026
If you have verified that you meet the admission requirements for the program you are applying for, follow these steps to apply for admission.
- To begin your application, visit the RSU portal at www.rsu.edu.ng.
- Proceed to pay your application fee using an Interswitch Verve-enabled card.,
- After payment, fill out the application form online, then download and print it. You must submit the hard copy of the completed form to the Secretary, Postgraduate School at RSU, along with the required documents listed below.
Prepare and Attach These Documents:-
- Photocopies of all relevant certificates
- Certified academic transcripts
(Make sure your previous school sends your transcript directly to the Secretary, Postgraduate School, RSU, in a confidential envelope or by email to [email protected])- Three reference letters from credible referees. At least one referee must be from a former academic institution, confirming your ability to handle postgraduate studies.
If you are applying for a PhD, you also need to submit a brief research proposal outlining your intended research area.
